Former Motörhead drummer Phil 'Philthy Animal' Taylor died on Wednesday

Dave McLeanEx-Motörhead drummer Phil 'Philthy Animal' Taylor died on Wednesday, November 11th at the age of 61. Taylor's former Motörhead bandmate, guitarist 'Fast' Eddie Clarke posted on his Facebook page the following tribute to his colleague: "My dear friend and brother passed away last night. He had been ill for sometime but that does not make it any easier when the time finally comes. I have known Phil since he was 21 and he was one hell of a character. Fortunately, we made some fantastic music together and I have many many fond memories of our time together. Rest in peace, Phil!"

Taylor replaced Motörhead's original drummer, Lucas Fox, during the recording of the band's first record On Parole in 1975. He was a member of the band from 1975–1984 and 1987-1992 having played on such classic band albums as Motörhead (1977), Overkill (1979), Bomber (1979), Ace of Spades (1980), No Sleep 'til Hammersmith (1981), Iron Fist (1982) and Another Perfect Day (1983). After Motörhead he played in a number of projects involving Iggy Pop, Phil Caivano (of Monster Magnet), Corey Parks (of Nashville Pussy), Mick Farren and The Deviants and others.

Taylor had reunited with Lemmy Kilmister and Eddie Clarke on November 6th, 2014 at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England on stage for Motörhead's classic "Ace of Spades" only to come on to wave to the crowd and leave. He had on a regular, obviously incorrect basis previously been reported as having died of AIDS or in some horrible fashion.
